If only a little moisture penetrates, you can almost always repair the damage quite easily. However, if several bitumen shingles or entire strips of roofing felt have come loose, you should first provisionally seal the roof. Then the roofing has to be renewed in spring.
Repair minor damage
If the damaged area is not very large, you can almost always close it with roof varnish or cold glue. For this, the roof must be dry and clean. You should therefore only do this work in good weather.
- Brush the roofing paint on the damaged areas.
- Only use tools that you no longer need, because the paint adheres permanently to the equipment.
- Alternatively, you can repair the damaged area with roofing felt and cold glue.
If there is no frost, you can check the tightness by pouring plenty of water over the roof.
Tips
If you have to re-lay the roofing felt or freshly cover the roof with bitumen shingles, you should postpone this work until spring. During the winter months, provisionally seal the garden shed roof with pond liner, which you turn over a little on the sides and fix with waterproof adhesive tape or a stapler.
