Quinoa, a healthy staple food

The small grains resemble cereals, but they are not. From a botanical point of view, they belong to the goosefoot family, such as spinach.

Quinoa can be used in many ways and it also tastes really delicious. Since it does not contain gluten, it forms a great food base for allergy sufferers. Inca grain has also become a permanent fixture in vegetarian and vegan cuisine.
Quinoa is cooked and served as an accompaniment to meat or fish, but also mixed with vegetables. It is then important to know how and how long processed quinoa can be stored.

The storage of quinoa

Dried quinoa can be kept airtight in a dry and dark place for two to three years. Use the best before date on the packaging as a guide.

Once quinoa is cooked, store the leftovers in your refrigerator, hermetically sealed. It stays here for about a week. In no case should you leave the cooked granules at room temperature for more than two hours. There is a risk of mold growth.
A great way to store quinoa is to freeze it.

Freeze quinoa

If you have to go fast after a long day at work and you don't feel like cooking fresh quinoa, we recommend using frozen grains. At a suitable time, pre-cook large quantities of the delicious Inca grain and then freeze it in portions. Use suitable freezer boxes or bags for this. Quinoa should not come into contact with oxygen in the freezer, it could cause freezer burn and significant loss of taste. Quinoa can easily be stored in the freezer for about eight months.
