Procurement of the rods

There are three options for obtaining the rods:

  • Use pasture from your own garden
  • Look for free-standing willow and cut off branches

Of course, the trade already has pre-cut pasture rods in different lengths ready. But if you don't want to spend any money, just cut the branches yourself. Do you have your own pasture in the garden? Perfect, you can easily remove a few branches here. Otherwise, seek out a free-standing pasture. Most often you will find the deciduous tree

  • on river banks
  • at horse paddocks
  • in avenues

Really only cut as many branches as you estimate you will need. In the summer months it is forbidden to cut a willow so as not to disturb breeding birds. But nothing speaks against it in the period from October to February.

Tips

Use different types of willow. The different color tones usually create even more impressive patterns. The branches of the purple willow, for example, are colored reddish and harmonize wonderfully with those of the white willow.

Condition of the rods

  2. Now braid the willow branches around the stakes.
  3. To do this, lead them in alternating order in front of and behind the wooden posts.
  4. Tighten the rods at the end.
  5. Change the braiding direction after a few layers.
  6. If necessary, fix the pasture rods with thin wire.
  7. Cut off the protruding ends of the willow branches.

Tips

You can let your creativity run free with regard to the braid pattern. Change the order in which you tie the branches around the stakes as often as you want.

You will be surprised how easy it is to weave a bed frame from willow. If you forget about the euphoria of what is happening, that's no problem at all. Edges that are too large also serve as a fence or privacy screen.

Information on longevity

With careful assembly, one turns out to be Bed border made of willow just as durable as a wooden or wire fence. Once you have attached the rods well, the wood will probably last a full 5-7 years. To make the branches even more weather-resistant, we recommend using wood oil.
