Chlorosis - the yellowing disease
The light green color of the foliage indicates a lack of iron, manganese or magnesium. These substances are often present in sufficient quantities in the soil, but cannot be absorbed by the plant. The reasons for this can be:
- Waterlogging
- dryness
- Soil compaction in heavy soils
- Insufficient ventilation of the earth
- Long periods of frost in the winter months

The undesirable light green coloration of the leaves is primarily evident in the freshly sprouted leaves.
These measures provide a remedy:
- Prick the lawn in the area of the Cherry laurel hedge at least three feet wide and keep the floor open.
- Loosen the soil with a spade or a digging fork.
- Work coarse sand into heavy soils.
- Earth with ripe Compost, deposited manure or Horn shavings(€ 32.93 at Amazon *) to enhance.
- Mulching The bed under the hedge Bark mulch or chopping wood.
Mulching can remove the incorporated Slow release fertilizer slowly rot. In addition, the mulch layer regulates the moisture content of the soil and keeps the ground warm.
Leaf discoloration from too much lime in the soil
Another reason for the light green foliage of the cherry laurel can be calcareous soil to which the wood reacts with deficiency symptoms. The optimal pH value of the garden soil is in the range between 5 and 7.5. To determine whether this is the cause of the yellowing of the leaves, you can easily check the pH value yourself with measuring sticks from the gardening trade or the pharmacy.
If the pH value is not in the ideal range, it is sufficient to improve the soil in the home garden by mixing in compost. In order to shift the pH value into the acidic range, it is also advisable to mulch the subsoil.
Tips & Tricks
If the light green foliage continues to discolor and turn yellow, you should cut the leaves. The foliage then no longer regenerates and costs the plant unnecessarily strength. Of the Cut back however, it stimulates the vigorous new shoots so that the cherry laurel recovers quickly.
