The natural flawless growth is regularly shaped in its structure. The shoots are very close together. Therefore it is not necessary to cut back shoots every year in order to stimulate their branching.
Pruning cut is tolerated
Is there something you don't like about the growth of the umbrella fir? Then use the scissors:
- regular pruning is tolerated
- rarely necessary due to slow growth (20 to 30 cm per year)
- maximum height in this country: 10 m
- Maintain cone shape while cutting
- if there is not enough space available: shorten the sides to make the shape slimmer
Remove sick, damaged, old parts
A cut can also be made to remove the old. When the umbrella fir tree, for example yellow needles and these later turn brown, these discolored parts can be cut off for reasons of beauty.
You can also get sick, from Spider mites nutrient-sucked, damaged (e. B. by storms or frosts) and cut weak shoots courageously. Basically, the umbrella fir tolerates cutting without any problems. It usually drives well again.
In winter - the best time to cut
If it can be straightened out, you should cut your umbrella fir in winter, if necessary. The best time has come in February. Choose a frost-free day and choose one depending on the diameter of the plant parts to be cut off Secateurs, one Loppers or saw.
Tips
Right after the Fertilize you shouldn't cut the umbrella fir. That Fertilize stimulates their growth and cutting initially does the opposite.
