Plant pillow asters correctly
Pillow asters do not grow particularly tall (around ten to 50 cm), but they do grow in width, as their name suggests. With a combination of different colored asters you can let your garden shine in tone in tone or in bright colors. You can hope for particularly abundant flowering if you plant your pillow asters in a sunny place with nutrient-rich soil.

Water and fertilize pillow asters correctly
Water your pillow asters regularly so that the soil does not dry out, but not so much that waterlogging can occur. Pillow asters do not tolerate either of these very well, but the damage caused by moisture is usually much greater than any damage caused by dryness. If you take these plants twice a year (in spring and after flowering) fertilize, then that is perfectly sufficient.
Propagate pillow asters
If you want to grow your pillow asters yourself, we recommend growing them in pots. But also the sowing outdoors is possible in a warm and sheltered place. Plant your pillow asters in early autumn, then they will be well rooted by winter and will be able to bloom abundantly in the next year. In addition, pillow asters multiply themselves through root runners.
Hibernate pillow asters
In principle, a well-grown pillow aster does not need any special winter protection. After flowering, you can have the asters at ground level in late autumn cut off. Young plants tolerate a layer of leaves, compost or brushwood quite well. Cold wind can hurt the pillow asters more than low temperatures, so they should be in a sheltered place or at least be protected from it in winter.
The essentials in brief:

- Recommended: cultivation in a pot
- Plant out: in early autumn
- pour: vigorously
- fertilize: little
