How to design creative flower pots

The right flower pot for every plant

In the garden, on the terrace, on the balcony or in the room, not only the plants but also the flower pots are eye-catchers. Unusual specimens testify to individuality and creativity. It is not that difficult to make flower pots from a wide variety of materials. The selected vessels only have to meet a few conditions:

• they should be stable enough for the plant
• they need a drainage hole for irrigation water
• they should be portable

When it comes to the design, it is up to you how you best put the new pot in the limelight.

Convert possible objects from everyday life into a flower pot

Basically, any container can be used as a flower pot if it is prepared accordingly. Old plastic bottles, tin cans, baskets, shoes, even old car tires, for example, are suitable. Of course, you can also use old clay and plastic pots redesign. A painting, a sticking with foil or with small stones are simple possibilities. Your imagination is the limit.

Biodegradable flower pots

They consist of a material that disintegrates and composts after a while. They are available as growing containers at garden centers, but they are relatively expensive. You can also easily make biodegradable flower pots yourself.
All you need are, for example, toilet paper rolls or egg boxes.

1. Take a toilet roll and cut several slits about 2 cm long on one side.
2. Fold the resulting strips inwards so that they are on top of each other.
3. Put a piece of newspaper or baking paper inside to prevent soil from falling out.
4. Now fill the roll with soil.
5. Sow and water.
6. As soon as the seedling has developed its second leaf, it can be planted in the garden soil with the cardboard tube.

Egg cartons can also be used in a similar manner. Put potting soil in the wells and sow. As soon as the plant seedlings have reached a certain size in the individual segments of the box, each segment can be separated and planted directly in the ground.
