The best time to repot

Immediately after the break is the best time to Calla to repot. The plant will do well if you put it in new soil every year plants.

Many pollutants accumulate in the potting soil when it is in use for a long time. By fertilizer, Irrigation water and pests, the pollutant concentration can become so high that the calla becomes sick or even dies.

This is how you repot the Calla correctly

  • Take out of the old pot
  • Rinse off all soil
  • Thoroughly clean the old or new pot
  • Feel with fresh earth
  • Plant the tuber about five to seven centimeters deep
  • Cover with earth
  • Press firmly
  • Soak the pot in the immersion bath

Carefully remove the calla from the old pot so as not to damage the tuber. Cut off very long roots before placing the flower in new potting soil.

Rinse the onion under running water so that you can thoroughly remove the old soil.

The right pot

As with all indoor plants, the pot must not be too big or too small. There should be a good two to three centimeters of space around the tuber.

If you use the old pot again, wash it well to remove all harmful substances. To be on the safe side, you should also clean new pots before repotting.

Cleanliness plays a major role in general. All devices that you use when repotting must be completely clean and sterile.

Warning: the calla is slightly poisonous!

At all Maintenance work don't forget your gloves. You should never touch the calla with your bare skin, as the poison it contains can cause nasty skin irritation.

Tips & Tricks

Always use a mat when repotting your calla. Of the poisonous sapthat the plant secretes leaves hardly removable stains on the ground. You should then clean the pad thoroughly or dispose of it.
