Choose the right types of lettuce
Lettuce can be sown practically all year round, provided you have the appropriate variety choose: You want to prefer lettuce at home in February so that you can harvest fresh lettuce as early as May can? Then choose an early variety of lettuce. Do you want to sow lettuce in summer so you can harvest in autumn? Sow the lettuce in seed trays
Lettuce can be used as early as February preferred will. As soon as there is no more frost outside, it can move into the open air. In this case, you can harvest fresh lettuce as early as May. For later sowing it is unnecessary to prefer the lettuce. Instead, sow it directly in the field.
Sow the lettuce outside
As soon as there is no more frost to be expected, you can sow the lettuce directly in the field. The ice saints at the end of May are a guideline for this. From this date on, you can sow your lettuce outdoors without any problems. This is how you do it:
- Loosen the soil with a hoe or spade on.
- Mix in a few liters of compost.
- Lightly water the soil.
- Press small hollows about half a centimeter deep into the earth at a distance of at least 25 cm.
- Put the seeds in the holes and cover them with soil.
- Carefully water the bed.
- Take care of one Snail protection, if needed.
Harvest the lettuce continuously
If you want to harvest lettuce all year round, you can re-sow lettuce every week. For sowing in summer, you should then choose a medium variety that is more heat-resistant than early varieties and can therefore also be harvested in midsummer.
