Dig up yucca at their location

To divide the plant, you basically have two options: First, you can use the whole yucca dig up, then cut into the desired number of individual plants and then put them back into the ground set. This method makes sense if you have the yucca anyway realizecut or split the whole plant first want to see where it can best be shared. On the other hand, the plants also form offshoots by themselves, which you can simply do with one spade Separate from the mother plant, dig up and then replant separately. The mother plant itself remains in the ground.

Successfully sharing yucca

For the complete division of the garden yucca, it is best to proceed as described:

  • Prick with one Digging fork around the yucca in the ground.
  • Try to loosen the soil
  • and carefully lift the yucca out of its plant block.
  • If necessary, you will of course also have to cut through roots.
  • However, it is better to damage as few roots as possible.
  • Remove the clinging soil so that you can control the roots.
  • Do these look healthy? Sick and badly damaged roots are removed.
  • Now look at which places the yucca can best be divided.
  • The roots should be strong and have several shoots.
  • Now divide the yucca in the best places with a spade.
  • You can also use a sharp knife or one Secateurs to help.
  • Once the division has been made, plant the individual pieces separately in the ground.
  • Provide good drainage beforehand (loosening and improving the soil)
  • and then water the newly planted yuccas well.

By the way, the best time for this measure is spring, as the yucca can take root better during the growing season and is therefore robust enough for before winter cooler temperatures is.

Tips

If the transplanted yucca leaves the Leaves hanging, that's normal. Observe the plant: if the leaves straighten up again after a few days, it has grown.
