The hole in the bottom of the pot
Clay and terracotta pots have a 1 cm hole in the bottom. Too much rain or irrigation water flows off here. In this way, there is no waterlogging for the plant, which can lead to root rot.
Who just Potting soil If you pour it into his pot, you will notice that the soil is repeatedly washed out of the pot when it is watered. A drainage system can be installed here as a countermeasure.
- Take your flower pot and place a pottery shard or pebble on the drain hole. This prevents soil from being washed out.
- Put a 2 - 3 cm thick drainage layer made of coarse gravel or Expanded clay(€ 16.36 at Amazon *) in the pot.

The damaged flower pot
When checking your flower pots after hibernation, you will discover a hole in your most beautiful flower pot. Instead of throwing it away, you can try plugging the hole. Adhesives from various suppliers are suitable for this, for example the "Powder dough" from the hardware store.
- Cut off a sufficiently large piece of the modeling clay.
- Knead the mass until it has a uniform color.
- Press the mass into the hole in the flower pot.
- Use a wooden spatula to smooth the edges of the repaired area as smoothly as possible.
- Let the whole thing cure for at least 24 hours.
- Sand the repaired area with fine sandpaper.
You can then beautify the area according to your taste so that it is no longer noticeable. Spray paint or acrylic paint can help here. The flower pot can be planted normally again after the repair is complete.
