Elephant ear (Alocasia macrorrhizos)
The elephant ear certainly bears a resemblance to its namesake. The shape of the large, lush green leaves is reminiscent of the hearing organs of an elephant. In addition, the houseplant can grow as tall as a man in a suitable location. Just like the pachyderms that roam the African savannah, the elephant's ear can cope with dry air and little water. From July to October even small, white flowers appear between the attractive foliage.
Zamioculas
Zamioculas is a wonderful entry-level plant. If you accidentally forget to water the houseplant, the care mistake will have no consequences. Since the plant is native to regions where there is frequent drought, it can also get by without water for weeks in this country. This can already be recognized by the thick, fleshy leaves that serve as moisture stores. Zamioculas is also used to warm heating air.
Note: Did you know that there are not only plants that can tolerate heating air, but also improve the indoor climate. Often people also get a cold or headache because the air in the room is too dry. By releasing moisture from certain indoor plants, they counteract the symptoms.
