As in the field, the raised bed greenhouse has proven itself a thousand times over as its weather-independent variant for growing plants. Appropriately thought out and with a stable superstructure facing the walls, the available interior space of such houses can be used particularly well. If then still the Side height maximized according to the height of the raised bed there is still enough space above, even for larger plants. Further advantages are:

  • faster and usually more productive growth of the plants, as their roots are always in the warm soil;
  • Raised beds can be on one separate foundation (Strip foundation or ground anchors), which significantly increases the statics and safety of the entire structure;
  • Gardening that is extremely back-friendly is possible in the raised bed greenhouse;
  • Replacing the floor is significantly easier than with a ground-level construction and can even be done in layers with different materials;

Proper gardening needs good soil in the raised bed greenhouse

Not only high-quality soil, but the different types of soil allow your vegetables and all the other plants to thrive. However, the different growing conditions the planned planting. The following constellation is generally recommended for traditional vegetable and herb cultivation (order from bottom to top):

  • Drainage layer: Consists of coarser potsherds and pebbles, which get smaller and smaller in height; Water stagnation is thus kept within limits or completely avoided;
  • Soil layer: For this purpose, a 10 to 15 cm thick layer of soil from the garden soil is recommended;
  • Central core resp. Wood layer: This is where the shredded remains from the last pruning of the bushes come in (not too fine chopped!) as well as a portion of well-rotted, i.e. ripe compost with the addition of Manure;
  • Sifted compost: This layer provides the nutrients the plants need and contains carefully sifted compost from our own production.

Please note that really only high quality compost soil is used, otherwise it becomes a increased putrefaction can occur, which has a negative effect on the growth of the plants.

Caring for the raised beds in the greenhouse

The top layer can be freshened up a little after each harvest. This guarantees that there is always a balanced ratio of nutrients in the soil. Overall, the content and thus also the height in the raised bed are reduced by about 10 to 15 cm, so that the second level is reached it should be refilled again and again before all layers are completely replaced after five to seven years he follows.

Tips

Similar to the open field in the garden, the raised bed should be greenhouse from the ground regular soil samples taken and evaluated in the laboratory. A quick test, which at least provides information about the current pH value, already provides valuable information in this regard.
