Create a mini pond

Required material

  • a zinc pan
  • Pond liner
  • a spirit level
  • clean gravel and stones
  • Plant baskets
  • Pond substrate
  • Bricks
  • if necessary, filter systems or sludge extractors

Choice of location

Mini ponds are suitable for balconies, terraces or simply in the middle of the garden. The floor must be at ground level. You should also not place your zinc tub directly under a tree to save yourself cleaning work in autumn. If your mini pond is in the blazing sun, increased algae formation is likely. Your miniature ecosystem shouldn't get more than six hours of sunshine a day. A partially shaded location is therefore best suited.
If you set up your mini pond on the balcony, it is essential that you estimate the subsequent weight when choosing the size of your zinc tub. Adjust the volume of the statics. You should also check the tub for leaks beforehand. These occur mainly on folded and soldered seams.

instructions

  1. Level the soil at the chosen location.
  2. Check your work with a spirit level.
  3. Line the zinc tub with the pond liner.
  4. Press the foil firmly in the corners
  5. Sprinkle a layer of gravel on the floor to increase the stability.
  6. Using the bricks, lay small stairs on the edge of the zinc tub.
  7. Fill the zinc tub with clean water.

Design a mini pond

It looks particularly impressive when your mini pond starts to glow at dusk. You can get the necessary diving lamps at the hardware store. You simply slide this onto the bottom of the zinc tub.

variant

In addition to the free-standing garden pond in the zinc tub, there is also the option of digging it in. The advantage here is that the water does not heat up as much.

Suitable aquatic plants

Suitable planting will save you a lot of work. Many plants filter the pollutants from the water and thus prevent the formation of algae, among other things. However, you must pay close attention to the recommended planting depth. If the plants are too far out of the water, they perish just as if they received too little air under the water surface. With bricks, which you place gradually in the pond, you will succeed in building the optimal basis.
