The anthurium should not be cut back

Flamingo flowers grow bushy and should therefore not be cut back. Only dead and brown discolored inflorescences as well yellowed foliage are taken out.

  • Always use clean, very sharp cutting tools for this care measure.
  • Cut off just above the substrate.

Long, sparsely growing leaves

Sometimes it grows Anthurium not dense and green as desired, but forms only a few, very long and unstable leaves. Please do not just cut it back, as this is due to a maintenance error.

The anthurium does not like direct sunlight, but still needs a lot of light. If it shows the growth habit mentioned above, it is too dark. Place the plant in a bright, shady spot on the windowsill and be patient. As a rule, the flamingo flower sprouts new leaves and the bulky appearance grows together.

But what do you do when the plant has grown too big?

In this case, it is advisable to cut back radically instead of the division of the plant. If possible, you should wait until spring with this maintenance measure.

  • Carefully remove the flamingo flower from the old pot.
  • If it cannot be removed from the container, knead the plastic pots gently. Clay pots may have to be destroyed.
  • Gently pull apart the root ball of the plant. Depending on the size, you can divide the anthurium into two or three individual plants.

Now you can put the scaled-down ornamental plants in individual pots. Since the root ball does not grow very extensive, as with many epiphytes, the planters should not be too large. Good drainage is also important, as the flamingo flower is very sensitive to waterlogging. Cover this with a pottery shard so that the earth is not washed out.

Have as a substrate Orchid soil or a mixture of Compost soil, Peat and sand proven. Would you like off-the-shelf Potting soil use this with styrofoam balls or Expanded clay(€ 16.36 at Amazon *) offset.

Tips

Anthuriums are poisonous plants and can irritate the skin. Therefore, wear gloves when working on the plant.
