Care during flowering
Do not cut out the faded umbels as soon as the first flowers wither. The flowering period can be extended to several months if you do the following:
- Carefully remove only the individual flowers.
- Only cut out the flower stalks when there are no more fresh buds.

And what happens after flowering?
The Kalanchoe is one of the short-day plants. This is the name given to plants that are only allowed to be surrounded by daylight for a few hours in order to bloom. If the Kalanchoe has completely bloomed, the following procedure is recommended:
- First cut off everything that has faded.
- In autumn, when the hours of sunshine decrease naturally, do not add additional lighting to the Kalanchoe.
- The plant should only be reached by light for about eight hours a day.
- In rooms where artificial light is often used, you can imitate the long hours of the night by cutting a cardboard box that is placed over the plant.
- Inventive natures simply put their Kalanchoe in a cupboard in the evening.
- Lowering the temperature is helpful for flower formation, but it should not fall below 15 degrees.
- It is only watered in sips and not fertilized at all.
As soon as the first flowers appear, the Kalanchoe will grow a little more poured and fertilized on a monthly basis. But be careful: Too much water, especially liquid that collects in the saucer that is not poured away, quickly leads to waterlogging.
Tips
Usually Kalanchoes are cultivated in the room. The sun-hungry succulents also feel very comfortable outdoors in the warm summer months. It can stand very sunny here, but the houseplant should be carefully accustomed to the changed conditions in the first few days.
