Tuliposides spoil the joy of tasting
Glycosides, which are harmful to health, flow through tulips. The poison control center of the University Hospital in Bonn draws attention to this. If consumed intentionally or unintentionally, the tuliposides cause symptoms of poisoning. However, nausea and vomiting only occur when large quantities of tulip bulbs are ingested. However, the experts do not want to commit themselves to quantifying the critical dose. With this in mind, we recommend that you refrain from tasting.
In case of skin contact there is a risk of dermatitis
Provided that you have a large number of tulip bulbs in autumn plants, the sap could cause dermatitis if it comes into direct contact with your skin. We therefore recommend the following precautionary measures:
- Carry out all planting and maintenance work on tulips with gloves
- Take the same precautions when cutting tulips for the vase
PVC gloves are unsuitable for this purpose. Please use a product made from nitrile rubber, as this material does not tear as quickly.
