Continue to care for balcony plants in the house

  • Plants that shed the leaves are placed in a dark, frost-free but cool room.
  • Evergreen flowers get a bright spot, for example a window in the stairwell.
  • If there is enough space, balcony flowers may remain in the box. Alternatively, you can take a few specimens from the planter, cut them back, remove soil and overwinter in boxes.
  • You can pot geraniums and put the root ball in a bag and hang the flowers upside down in a not too warm place to save space.

Protect hardy flowers

Frost hardy flowering plants like hydrangea, Rose or Sedum plant can stay outdoors even in winter. To protect them from severe frost, they are covered from above with straw mats, fir green or leaves.

Place hardy flowers grown in planters on wooden strips. This prevents the roots from freezing to death on the cold floor covering of your patio.

In very rough locations it is also recommended Window boxes(€ 7.99 at Amazon *) and to insulate the bucket from the outside. The following are suitable for this:

  • Bubble wrap,
  • old jute sacks,
  • Garden fleece.

Tips

If you want to enjoy the garden, balcony and terrace in winter too, you can decorate the protection against the cold. For example, tie thick cords around the protective jute layer and decorate them with a little pine green. In addition to the fir branches you can put some evergreen twigs in the ground and decorate them according to the season.
