Basically all climbing rose varieties are more or less winter hardy, with some being significantly more robust than others. You can recognize particularly robust (and therefore recommendable) varieties by the ADR seal, the symbol for the so-called "Rosen-TÜV". It is true that many winter-hardy varieties basically do not need one special winter protection, but elementary measures such as piling up and covering with jute or the like. ä. Materials in particularly cold winters are still useful and can protect the plants from major damage.

In a four-year trial, the Dresden-based Saxon State Institute for Agriculture found a total of 76 different types of climbing roses Tested for their robustness and frost resistance. The following varieties, including not only ADR roses, have been marked as particularly recommendable due to their winter hardiness and disease resistance.
