A surprisingly large number of heating systems are available from the relevant specialist dealers, which does not make the right selection easy. When it comes to purchasing a greenhouse heater, we first of all distinguish between three types: those used all year round Greenhouses(€ 60.76 at Amazon *) are used:
- Electric heaters
- gas-operated heating (fuel: propane, natural gas or catalytic)
- Paraffin heaters

To do this, we took a closer look at Biogreen, a Hessian company from Bischoffen-Oberweidbach, which has been known for high-quality greenhouse accessories for several years. We were primarily interested in the technical details of the heating units, but we also wanted to get an overview of the current prices.
Compact and powerful: electric heaters with blowers
The fan output of the four differently sized, energy-saving devices is between 163 and 460 m3 / h, the maximum heating output is 2,800 watts. Depending on the model, they are equipped with splash protection, rustproof stainless steel housing, digital thermostat, frost monitor function and several power levels. The top model for just under 300.00 euros not only heats up to 26 ° C, but also ensures pleasant cooling in summer. The cheapest electric parking heater with an output of 2,000 watts has a temperature monitor that can be positioned anywhere (-5 to 85 ° C) and is available with over 150 m3 / h air circulation for 99.95 euros.
Heating with propane gas
Ideal for Cold frames and small greenhouses up to 3 m2, the cheapest model for operation with propane gas, but without a thermostat costs 69.95 euros or 114.95 euros for houses twice as big. Our recommendation would be the Frosty propane gas heater, which costs 269.95 euros and which also emerged as the winner in a practical test in the DIY magazine “Selbst ist der Mann”. The most important technical data:
- Control range 0 to 25 ° C;
- Oxygen deficiency assurance;
- Power 2,500 watts;
- Frost protection function;

Paraffin heaters, ideal for small houses
These devices, which are very small in terms of their design but are reasonably priced, are used in greenhouses for which the anti-freeze climate between 5 and 8 ° C is sufficient. Premium paraffin, which is available from Biogreen for 23.95 euros (4 l canister), is used as the operating medium. The single burners in a robust steel construction ensure good heat distribution even in hard-to-reach places in the greenhouse; their price starts at just under 12 euros. The top device (59.95 euros) for houses up to 5 m2 in size has a particularly long burn time because it is equipped with a 33 cm XL wick. The most important key data for the Warmax Power 5:
- Burning time per filling (4.5l): 3.5 hours;
- Heating power: 600 watts;
