Uses for standard buddleia

At a High trunk is it a Buddleia, which is tree-shaped with a round crown on a single main stem. This form has the advantage that it is in contrast to the natural shrub form lots of space saves - so the tall trunk finds a place where a spreading shrub up to two or three meters wide would never fit. Thus, the standard summer lilac is also suitable for small gardens as well as for one Bucket keeping.

Plant and care for the summer lilac standard

In terms of care, a summer lilac high trunk does not differ from the usual shrub shape, only when pruning there are some important tips to consider.

Location

Like all buddleia, the high trunk thrives best in a sunny, (wind) sheltered and warm location. The soil should be rather dry and well-drained, the pH value should be slightly acidic to slightly calcareous. For a container plant, it is best to use a mixture of good container plant soil and gravel.

Fertilize

Planted high trunks are twice a year - at the end of March and in June - with compost and Horn shavings(€ 32.93 at Amazon *) provided. Bucket copies fertilize You, on the other hand, use a liquid flowering plant fertilizer every two weeks between March and September. Make sure that it contains less nitrogen and more phosphorus - this will make for a more abundant bloom.

Cut

A Buddleja davidii high trunk always blooms on this year's shoots and should therefore be cut in early spring. Radical shortening, as is usually the case with buddleia, does not make much sense here, as otherwise you will destroy the beautiful crown. So shorten the shoots so that the round crown shape is retained. Overaged branches, on the other hand, are cut off directly at the trunk so that new shoots can grow out. Shoots growing from the side of the trunk as well as from the roots are removed immediately - otherwise you will soon have a classic shrub instead of the high trunk.

Tips

When the shrub is overwintered, you have to pay attention to one special feature: In contrast to the shrub, you have to In the case of the high trunk, also protect the trunk and the crown shoots from frost, otherwise they will freeze away can.
