Do not throw away old tubs, but repurpose them

Have you just remodeled your bathroom and now have an old bathtub? You do not have to dispose of these, but can be converted into a raised bed in just a few simple steps. Freestanding bathtubs with feet can be set up just like that, for everyone else you can build a simple scaffold and place them in such a way that they cannot tip over. Incidentally, not only old bathtubs are suitable for raised beds, but also zinc bathtubs or the plastic baby bathtub, for which your child has long since become too big. It is only important that the tubs have a drain so that Drain off excess water can.

Beautify the bath or zinc tub

The tubs can be beautified with little effort so that they cannot be seen - but instead as a kind Foil replacement act in the raised bed. You can build a wooden border around the tubs, wall in the tub (for example with a wall Bricks or natural stones), surrounded by a fence made of thick wooden planks or hazelnut rods, or a pretty one Wickerwork.

Fill the tub correctly

However, it is much more important to fill the tub correctly. As the bottom layer, you should insert a fleece so that the plant substrate does not clog the drain and this can no longer do its job. It comes up as Drainage material a few centimeters of coarse gravel, which in turn is covered with a layer of fleece. Of course, you should use water-permeable fleece, otherwise there will be waterlogging. Only then fill in the plant substrate, choosing this depending on the planting. In a bathtub - especially a zinc bathtub - colorful flowers, bushy perennials or herbs look very pretty.

Tips

If you do not want to line your raised wooden bed with foil, you can use a suitable plastic tub (of course with water drainage to prevent waterlogging) instead. You can easily build suitable frames yourself for existing or purchased tubs, but you can also use ready-made kits from specialist dealers.
