Succulent flowers for the windowsill
Succulent houseplants can keep us tortured for a few years before they decide on their first flowering period. The following species and varieties compensate your gardener for the waiting time with a breathtaking display of flowers:
- Christmas star (Euphorbia pulcherrima), the indispensable classic for the Christmas window sill; 20 to 50 cm
- Flaming Käthchen (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana), the thick-leaf plant rich in flowers for the winter; 15 to 30 cm
- Queen of the Night (Selenicereus grandiflorus), the mysterious Snake cactus for magical nocturnal blossoms; 100 to 300 cm
- Christ thorn (Euphorbia milii), a colorful autumn bloomer as a succulent, thorny shrub; 10 to 50 cm
Representing the best-known succulent houseplants, the two cacti species are gold ball cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) and Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) called. With its golden yellow thorns and bright yellow flowers, a golden ball cactus rightly bears its name. The leaf cactus can confidently do without pointed thorns for Christmas if it puts on its red flower dress from November to February.
Tips
Right to water plays a key role in the summer care program for succulent houseplants. There is only a need for water when the substrate has demonstrably dried on. After a finger test, let the lime-free water run out of the jug nozzle until the coaster fills up.
