Plant green roses properly
Plant a young one in mid / late May Convertible rose in a sufficiently large bucket or Flower box,(€ 149.00 at Amazon *) so that no repotting is necessary during the year. Our tip: Put varieties for the bed in a pot that you sink into the ground. You get this out in autumn to overwinter the ornamental wood frost-free. A structurally stable potted plant soil, permeable and nutrient-rich, only fill in when you have inserted potsherds over the opening as drainage. In the meantime, the still potted root ball is soaked in soft water until no more air bubbles rise. Keep the previous planting depth when you plant the now potted Lantana camara in the ground. A well-measured sip of lime-free water rounds off the planting process properly.

Which location is suitable?
The only place where pink roses unfold their picturesque play of colors is in a sunny and warm location. If the daily yield of sun rays is more than 4 hours, you can look forward to a never-ending flowering period from spring until well into autumn. The exotic ornamental shrubs only take their place in the open air when the temperatures permanently exceed 15 degrees.
The correct planting distance
With the professional measurement of the planting distance, the special growth behavior of the convertible rose comes into focus. Most of the Lantana camara of the popular hybrid series Bandana, Esperanta or Tropic grow more than twice as wide as they are tall. The beauties of the Luxor series exceed their height by three times their width. With a planting distance of 40-50 cm you are exactly right in the bed. For cultivation in the balcony box, reduce this value by 5-8 cm.
What soil does the plant need?
A noble flowering plant should not come with a cheaper one Potting soil be confronted by the discounter. In order for the rose to show off its magical play of colors in perfection, high-quality potted plant soil with a pH value of 6.0 to 6.5 is shortlisted. The standard soil ED73 Classic with natural clay and white peat has proven itself well. For cultivation in large tubs, the focus is on the CL Perl Classic potting substrate, structurally stable and with high air capacity for the roots. The specialist trade with Gepac B&B offers a premium quality soil, with high-quality components and extra iron fertilizer to prevent leaf chlorosis.
What is the best time to plant?
The changing rose found its way to us from the sunny, warm tropical regions of this earth. The ornamental wood is correspondingly sensitive to the cold. The time window for planting only opens when the mercury column permanently exceeds the 15-degree mark. In Central Europe this is the case from mid / late May at the earliest.
When is the flowering time?
The changing flower lives up to its reputation as a permanent bloomer with a flowering period from May to October. In order to maintain this flower festival over the long term, the wood naturally needs your horticultural support. Cut out the withered flowers regularly, as the next buds are already waiting underneath. Please use sharp, disinfected scissors for this, as the shoots lignify over the course of the season.

Cut the green roses correctly
In the course of the summer growth and flowering season, the Secateurs only used if you cut off the withered flowers. Otherwise, the convertible rose would like to have peace and quiet. The only exception is a cut of the most beautiful flower stems for the vase or the bouquet. To do this, cut shoots with just opened flowers for a long shelf life. The central shape and maintenance cut is given to the flowering wood in February / March, when the winter dormancy is nearing the end. At this time, cut off the shoots by up to two thirds. The more courageously you go to work, the more luxuriant the next bloom will be, as the verbena plant always blooms on this year's shoots. When making the cut, please ensure that you place the scissors a few millimeters above an outward-facing, sleeping one eye apply. A sleeping eye you can see it as a slight thickening under the bark.

Pouring convertible roses
Do not let the substrate dry out. The sunnier the location, the thirstier the convertible rose. However, do not water until the surface of the earth has dried to prevent waterlogging. On hot summer days it is not uncommon for the plant to be watered early in the morning and again in the evening hours. Please use mostly soft water, as the tropical beauty knows from their homeland.
Fertilize green roses properly

Diseases
It is the high water requirement that also makes the convertible rose susceptible to Botrytis, the gray mold that is widespread in the garden. In particular, plants weakened by neglect of care are included in the prey pattern of fungal spores. If a gray lawn of mold spreads on the leaves and shoots, there is an urgent need for action. Immediately cut off all infected parts of the plant in order to dispose of them in the household waste. Put all the basic conditions of cultivation to the test in order to initiate possible improvements. An effective control agent has not yet been developed.

Pests
Often the changing flower is haunted by penetrating whiteflies. Sticky traps have proven effective against these pests. You hang these boards coated with glue in the infested plants. You can put an end to the annoying aphids with the classic soft soap solution.
Overwinter
Successful wintering is less delicate than the tropical origin suggests. Get your convertible roses in good time when the temperatures drop below 15 degrees Celsius in autumn. Before doing this, just cut off the withered flowers and any fruits, as the best date for the main cut is at the end of the winter dormancy. This is how the evergreen trees get through the winter safe and sound:
- Set up in a bright, not full sun window seat
- Temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius
- The more leaves fall, the less water is poured
- Do not fertilize from October to February
In February / March cut back the convertible rose vigorously and repot in fresh substrate. In the following period, get used to the stressed wood gradually to sunny light conditions and higher temperatures before it takes its place in the summer garden from mid / end of May.

Propagate changing roses
With the help of half-lignified head cuttings, you can grow more convertible florets in no time at all. To do this, cut off non-flowering shoots with a length of 10-12 cm in summer in order to defoliate them in the lower half. Proceed in these steps:
- Small pots fill with peat sand or potting soil
- Insert two-thirds of the cuttings at a time and water them
- Put a transparent bag over it to create a warm and humid microclimate
- Set up in a partially shaded, warm and wind-protected location
In the following time keep the substrate constantly slightly moist with soft water. To prevent rot, ventilate the cover several times a day. If a cutting is freshly sprouting, the rooting is successful and the hood can give way. Care for your pupils through the winter in the bright, cool window seat, like their adult counterparts. Until next spring you will have vital and strong young plants in your hands.

Is it poisonous?
All members of the convertible herb genus are poisonous in all parts. Unfortunately, the popular Lantana camara leads the toxic ranking. The toxin content is primarily concentrated in the berry fruits. Intentional or unintentional consumption manifests itself in dramatic symptoms that resemble poisoning by belladonna. The ornamental wood has no place in the family garden and within reach of pets. As a gardener, please take this into account by wearing gloves and long-sleeved clothing for all planting and maintenance work.
