How does the fight with rapeseed oil work?

A mixture of water and rapeseed oil covers your plant like a film. This is not damaged in any way. However, the white flies can no longer get oxygen and consequently suffocate.

Which cooking oil is suitable?

You can use conventional rapeseed oil from the supermarket for the treatment. It is therefore a very inexpensive method of combating the pest.
If you have an oil press, you can of course also produce the rapeseed oil yourself.

Make the rapeseed oil mixture

1. Mix a solution of 30% rapeseed oil and 70% water.
2. Fill the solution into a spray bottle.
3. Spray the affected plant several times at regular intervals.

The right time for application

Anyone who has ever observed the behavior of the whitefly knows how lively the animals are sometimes buzzing around the plant. It is therefore best to spray the canola solution onto the crop in the early hours of the morning. For one thing, the animals are still there

sluggish and you have a better chance of catching the bulk. On the other hand, there is a lower risk of the so-called magnifying glass effect. This is the burning of the leaves in direct sunlight due to small water droplets that refract the light.
Apply the rapeseed oil solution about every four to five days.

More tips

• Spray the undersides of the leaves on the surface.
• Isolate the plant from other plants so that the white fly not moving.
• Use the rapeseed oil solution as soon as possible or only make small quantities, as the mixture does not last long.
