Bar mower
As the name suggests, the typical characteristic of a bar mower is the bar to which the cutting device is attached. The mowing is done according to the silhouette principle. The plant material is cut by the oscillating movement of the knife rail, which is equipped with triangular knife blades, against a fixed or movable counter rail. In general, the functional principle can, for example, with a hair clipper or an electric Hedge trimmer be compared. Since the bar cutter is attached to the front end of the mower, the devices are also referred to as front mowers or single-axle mowers.
Areas of application
The mowers are used when it comes to cutting off thin trees or tall grass. The recommended minimum height is a grass length of 20 centimeters. The front mowers can also manage lengths of up to 150 centimeters. The devices are not suitable for normal lawn cutting, but rather for rough work.
Note: The single-axle front mowers are suitable for any terrain, but can also cope very well with slopes and difficult terrain that only needs to be mowed a few times a year.
requirements
In contrast to normal lawnmowers, the range of models for bar mowers is not that diverse. Nevertheless, when you rent a bar mower, you should make sure that it suits your area of application so that you simply do not experience any nasty surprises.
Cutting speed
With a bar mower, the speed of the knife bar to the counter bar is referred to as the cutting speed. The speed required for a perfect cut depends on the area of application:
- Grass: 2.4 meters per second on average
- thin trees: 1.75 meters per second on average
Note: Devices for loan usually meet these requirements, since the speed per minute is around 3,000 rpm.
Bar width
The bar or The cutting width of the hand front mowers with petrol engines is between 90 and 100 centimeters.
drive
Since the single-axle machines usually weigh a good 50 kilograms, the drive for pushing them plays a decisive role. Single-axle vehicles are mostly with an internal combustion engine. This petrol engine not only drives the cutter bar, but also the wheels. This is an advantage because the mower has a high dead weight (approx. 50 kilograms) and are therefore not very agile when pushing.
Note: Electrically operated bar mowers are rarely offered for rent. However, battery-operated devices are available from specialist retailers.
bikes
So that the front mower can also cope with difficult terrain and slopes, you should also take a look at the wheels when renting. These should
- have a comparatively larger diameter,
- be wider and
- have a very good profile.
Handle and guide
In order to protect your back, you should also pay attention to the handle (handlebar) when renting. Ideally this is
- vibration dampened
- height adjustable and
- ergonomically shaped.
