Remove mushrooms?

You must of course remove mold from the vegetable patch. However, if it is a normal spore fungus that can also be found in the forest or on meadows, control is only necessary for visual reasons. Its appearance has no effect on the yield of your vegetables. However, these mushrooms are by no means suitable for consumption. It is advisable to remove the fungus, especially if children or pets often move around the garden unsupervised.

Fight fungi

Mushrooms in the vegetable patch indicate an ecological imbalance. In this case, you offer the fungus a coherent habitat through care mistakes. But since fungi are also part of a biotope, you should never use chemical agents to combat them.

Note: It is hardly possible to completely remove a fungus from the garden. Rain and insects spread the pores and settle in the ground.

What conditions promote the fungus growth?

  • Use of conventional potting soil
  • Waterlogging after rainy summer months
  • shady locations
  • heavy, nutrient-poor soils
  • dead pieces of wood in the earth

measures

  • loosen the substrate in the bed (in order not to damage the vegetable plants, it is advisable to use a fork)
  • Install drainage against waterlogging
  • Stone meal or sprinkle fine sand on the bed
  • Check the nutrient content of the soil using a test strip and supplement the missing minerals with a fertilizer
  • Enrich acidic soil (pH value below 5) with lime
  • Remove coarse pieces of wood from the bed
  • Do not create the vegetable patch in close proximity to tree stumps
  • Do not cut off the mushroom, but carefully dig it out of the earth along with the spores
