Hedges with native shrubs
If you create a hedge with bushes that are native to this area, the biological balance in your property will remain in order. Unlike exotic shrubs, these wild animals offer a diverse range of food. Another advantage: These enclosures are very resistant, as the plants are perfectly adapted to the prevailing weather conditions.

Popular shrubs that can be planted in a row as a hedge include:

Flowering hedge bushes
These look particularly attractive, as the look of the hedge changes constantly over the course of the year. The flowering is followed by the lush, dense dress of leaves, from which the fruits stand out attractively in autumn.
Flowering hedges can be wonderfully tailored to your individual preferences. You can choose a single type of plant as well as combine different shrubs. If you plant flowering shrubs and evergreen bushes alternately, the hedge will still offer good privacy even in the winter months.

Evergreen bushes

Bushes like the barberry do not shed their leaves until spring, just before they sprout, and then sprout again immediately, so that they are only bare for a very short time.
Planting and caring for hedge bushes
Regardless of which bushes you choose, you should create the hedge in spring or autumn. It is essential to keep to the planting spacing. A rule of thumb:
- 2.5 plants per running meter for cut hedges,
- 1 shrub every 50 to 150 centimeters in natural hedges.
Cut back
Cut hedges need to be cut once or twice a year. Natural hedges are only thinned and rejuvenated from the fourth year onwards.
Water
Regular watering is recommended when it is dry in midsummer.
Tips
