Protect outdoor lavender from frost
Winter hardy lavender can usually be used without any problems outside in the garden overwinter. A prerequisite for this, however, is a sunny and sheltered location, for example on a warm house wall. It can't be drafty either, because the plant doesn't like strong winds at all. You can also protect the plants from frost with protective mats or brushwood. Covering it also has the advantage that precipitation and moisture cannot drown the drought-loving lavender. Only a blanket of snow is advantageous because it protects the plants from the cold. Potted lavender hibernates best in a light and cool spot inside a house. Heated rooms like the living room should be avoided, however, as the plants need to hibernate. Temperatures around 10 to 12 ° C are ideal. In winter, lavender needs regular, but little water and shouldn't be fertilized. Finally, in spring, you can put the plants outside for the hour from March - assuming the weather is appropriate - and prepare them for the new growing season.
