Brown leaves in spring

Privet is considered to be evergreen, but with restrictions. In harsh winters it can lose part or all of its leaf dress. Fortunately, the bare branches sprout again in the following year. If these new shoots are brown in color, there is usually one cause: too much sun.

The delicate new shoots are not shaded by old leaves and must be exposed to the full power of the sun. It may take a few days for it to get used to the light intensity and turn it golden green again. The brown leaves are just an optical problem, which will resolve itself over time when the leaves fall.

Extreme drought combined with a negligent water supply can also lead to brown leaves. Even very long wet periods can cause leaf discoloration.

If a still small gold liguster is too sunny in its location, transplanting should be considered. This prevents brown leaves.

Brown spots on leaves
