Correct scarifying includes prior mowing - this is how it works

On the lawn there are precious grasses in continuous competition with moss and weed. Under unfavorable conditions or as a result of care errors, lawn thatch can prevail, so that the green area becomes mossy and weed. By using the Scarify the lawn, comb out the felt and score the floor for optimal ventilation. How to do it right:

  • After the last frost, mow the lawn to a stalk height of 4 to 5 cm
  • The green area fertilize and blast it regularly when it is dry
  • After 10 to 14 days, mow the lawn to a stalk height of 2 to 3 cm

If the scarifier is used on uncut lawns, there is an unnecessarily large distance between the knife roller and the ground. In addition, a large part of the moss and weeds is removed by previous mowing, which improves the result of the subsequent scarifying.

The best time is in April and May

In early spring it can already be clearly seen that a lawn is criss-crossed with moss and should be scarified. Nevertheless, the gardener should be patient until the soil temperature is constantly above 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. If the growth gets going, a lawn can regenerate faster afterwards. When choosing a date, it is important to note that the floor is not wet because it was on the previous days rain has fallen.

Tips

Do not put the lawn mower away after you have mowed before scarifying. Before you get bald spots or the entire area reseed, it is an advantage to remove the last remnants of the combed out lawn thatch with the mower.
