Spring bloomer

Become spring bloomerset in autumn. Depending on the weather, the planting date is between mid-September and the end of December. However, since these bulbous plants are hardy, nothing speaks against January from this point of view.

You should have a couple forgotten bulbs discover them in the garden shed or get hold of a special bargain at the hardware store, you can still plant the flower bulbs in January. However, the ground may well be frozen by then. That makes planting impossible.

Tips

Plant the Flower bulbs in planterswhich they put in a cool cellar so that the onions get the cold stimulus they need.

Delayed rooting

The reason why spring bloomers are planted in autumn is that they should take root before the harsh winter. If, on the other hand, they are only planted in January, rooting is made more difficult by the cold and is therefore delayed.

Stunted growth

The bulbs planted in January may not sprout optimally. Especially with tulips and Daffodils stunted growth is observed after planting in January. For example, they can sprout lower. However, these deficiencies no longer occur in the following year.

Later flowering

Since the flower bulbs can take root later, their flowering time will be delayed accordingly. But that's still better than throwing away the flower bulbs unused.

Cultivate in the home

In January, individual onions can also be used to decorate your own four walls. If they have already been through a cold spell in the basement, they can be driven forward in January:

  • separate Bulbs in the glass place
  • plant in the pot
  • with Wrap in wax

Note:
Bulbs that are already sprouting should definitely be kept in a warm room in January. Only the onion is hardy in the garden soil. The green, on the other hand, is sensitive and would freeze to death at sub-zero temperatures.
