Recognize and treat diseases

Any abnormalities indicate diseases of the yew tree

The easiest way to recognize a disease in your yew tree is the discoloration of the needles. These will be bright yellow or brown, become soft or fall off at all. Sometimes they also look crippled.

As soon as you notice changes to the needles, you should check the tree for diseases or Pests investigate.

Which diseases and pests can occur?

• Root rot
• Fungal attack
• Pest infestation

Mostly responsible for care errors

Root rot and fungal attack almost always indicate an unfavorable location and care errors. The soil is too damp, causing waterlogging. The tree does not receive enough nutrients or is too close to other plants.

Protect young trees from too much sunlight, even in winter.

Fungal infestation can hardly be treated

If the yew tree is infested with fungi, there is little you can do. You must have severely infected trees dig out and dispose of it. Is the Fungal attack not too strong, it may help to cut off all the branches and pick up the needles as well. Dispose of the plant parts carefully.

Pest diseases

The vine weevil, which hides in the ground, eats the needles and digs passages in the trunk. You can use nematodes against it, which the larvae eat from within.

Gall wasps aren't quite as harmful. They cause the needles to cripple and form small, round bumps on the branches. Cut off the affected branches generously and dispose of them with household waste.
