Wisteria is that dangerous

Various poisonous components can be found in all parts of the plant. However, the seed pods represent a particular danger. They burst with a bang and hurl the seeds out. This is not only appealing to children. However, even the (perhaps unintentional) consumption of two seeds triggers poisoning in them.

How does poisoning with wisteria express itself?

Not only the seeds but all parts of the wisteria are very poisonous. Different symptoms can occur as a result of consumption. The pupils dilate and the person becomes pale and sleepy. Dizziness, nausea and severe headaches occur, as well as vomiting and diarrhea.

Serious poisoning can lead to circulatory collapse and even death. Wisteria can also be fatal for dogs and cats and other pets. Animals show symptoms similar to humans when poisoned and should be treated in the same way.

What should I do in the event of poisoning?

You should consult a doctor or a hospital immediately, especially if children are poisoned. Because mostly it is difficult or impossible to determine what exactly and how much you have consumed. In mild cases it could help to drink a lot and to bind the toxins with charcoal tablets.

Tips

Since the wisteria is highly poisonous, it does not belong in a family garden!
