Viable ways of reproduction

Kitten willow, also called palm kitten, can usually be propagated by seeds and cuttings. Our hands are only tied at the popular hanging kitten pasture. Because although there is a lot of cut material with annual cutting, it is not suitable for propagation. This variety is a refinement. So if it has to be this variety, there is no way for a hobby gardener to avoid the tree nursery.

Propagation from seeds

Seeds of Common willow are not sold in stores. However, it shouldn't be difficult to get hold of. The common willow grows in nature and in numerous private gardens. From the age of four, it will also bear seeds. Once they have reached maturity, they can only germinate for about two weeks. The time window for the sowing is therefore short and must not pass unused.

Note:

Wild growing Catkins are under nature protection. Your branches may from 1. March to September 30 not be cut. However, collecting seeds is allowed.

Propagation with the help of cuttings

Spring is the best time to propagate cuttings. Since immediately after flowering the Cut the kitten pasture is due anyway, there is enough propagation material. Here are the instructions for how to proceed:

1. Get small clay pots, each with a large drain hole.
2. First fill in a drainage layer, made of coarse gravel or pottery shards.
3. Add a potting soil and clay mixture.

5. Insert a cutting into each pot, about 15 cm deep.
6. Press the soil and provide the cuttings with water.
7. Place the pots in a bright place.
8. Keep the soil slightly moist throughout.

After about two weeks, new growth will also be visible above ground. The rooted cuttings still need time to develop into strong young plants. Only then should you bring them to their destination plants.
