Sesame is healthy

The grains contain many vitamins, unsaturated fatty acids, trace elements and fiber. For example, there is more calcium in a tablespoon full of sesame seeds than in half a glass of milk. 100 g of sesame seeds cover the daily iron requirement for adults.
In addition to calcium and iron, sesame also contains many other minerals that make it very valuable for our body.
It is easy to use in the kitchen. Sesame can be roasted in the pan in no time. Its nutty taste refines numerous dishes.

Toast sesame seeds

If you want to roast sesame seeds, you will only need a little time, as the roasting process in the pan only takes a few minutes. However, you should taste the grains several times, because too much heat immediately spoils the good taste.

  1. First wash the amount of sesame seeds that you want to roast.
  2. Drain the grains well on a kitchen towel or in a fine sieve.
  3. Prepare a bowl for the toasted sesame seeds now.
  4. Heat a pan on medium heat.
  5. As soon as the pan has reached temperature, add the still moist sesame seeds. Do not use oil.
  6. Toast the grains, stirring constantly, until they turn brown. That takes approx. two to three minutes and the sesame begins to pop, the grains jump in the pan.
  7. As soon as a grain can be easily grinded into flour between your fingers, the sesame is ready.
  8. Immediately remove the grains from the heat and pour them into the bowl. Do not leave the sesame seeds in the pan, the residual heat could burn the delicate grains.
  9. Let the sesame seeds cool completely.

Toasted sesame seeds are stored in a dry and dark place. Airtight packaging, for example a glass with a screw cap, is suitable for storage. If stored correctly, the toasted sesame will keep for a few months.

Roast the sesame seeds in the oven

As an alternative to roasting on the stove, the sesame can also be baked in the oven.

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Put the sesame seeds on the baking sheet. The grains should not be too thick on top of each other, as this lengthens the roasting process.
  4. Shake the tray every few minutes to keep the grains from burning.
  5. The seeds should be completely browned in about ten minutes.
  6. Transfer the seeds to a cold tray or tray to cool.
