Suitable climbing aids for ivy
Basically, all trellises, fences and walls are suitable as a support for ivy. The prerequisite is that they give the ivy roots sufficient hold. The roots must be able to hold onto the material.

Wooden fences are well suited because the roots find sufficient support here. Walls also offer enough detention opportunities.
The situation is different with fences made of metal, for example chain-link fence(€ 249.95 at Amazon *) the end. The roots cannot anchor themselves to these materials. If you want to green such trellises with ivy, you must initially guide the young shoots through the individual meshes by hand.
Be careful with house walls as a climbing aid
As a rule, ivy does not need any special climbing support on house walls. Still, you should consider adding a trellis. This also applies if the wall is very bright and reflects the light, as in this case the ivy will turn away from the wall.
The ivy roots penetrate leaky joints. There they develop into real ivy roots, which in the worst case scenario can burst entire joints.
Therefore only plant ivy for greening facades on such walls and Wallswhere the joints are very tight, or use an additional climbing aid.
Tips
Greening house walls with ivy is a good protection against smearings and graffiti sprayers. In large cities in particular, ivy vegetation can save a lot of money because the walls do not have to be constantly cleaned.
