Glued and welded connections
Foil webs can be glued or welded together. If a pond liner is "assembled" by the manufacturer, individual lanes are also used there.

They are then cut to length during the manufacturing process and welded together firmly and tightly using automatic methods in operation. This requires large machines and special techniques - at home by the pond edge you cannot do it this way.
In most cases, gluing will be the method of choice - but you can also weld individual types of film yourself.
First, determine what type of slide you have in front of you:
- PVC pond liner
- EPDM foil
- PE film
- other foils (e.g. B. special geotextiles)
Connect PVC foils
Here you have the choice between special PVC adhesives and the use of solvent welding agents. Welding agents liquefy the film at the weld seam and when weighted down, these liquid parts run into one another and thus harden. This creates a permanent connection.
When gluing, the two overlaps (at least 15 cm!) Are simply firmly connected to each other. You then have to seal the seams separately.
Important here:
- work very carefully (especially with solvent welding agent)
- the slide must be absolutely clean and completely dry
- be very careful when roughening the film
- weight down the film sufficiently after connecting it (e. B. with sandbag)
Connect PE foils
You can usually not use solvent welding agents here - all that remains is sticking. Be aware, however, that the adhesive strength of most adhesives on PE films is significantly limited, and therefore work all the more carefully.
Connect EPDM foil
Special adhesives are used here, for which you also have to roughen and let the adhesive soak in first. Alternatively, there are also special adhesive tapes instead of liquid glue.
The film here must be particularly clean and also completely dry. To seal the seam you can easily liquid pond liner that you brush over the seam in several thin layers. Don't forget to complain here either.
Tips
In the case of streams, sealing the subsoil with the help of pond liner is the most cost-effective but also the worst option. If possible, use brook bowls or concrete the Stream.
