Important preliminary remark
In the case of young trees, digging is still relatively possible. But with a walnut that has already cracked the two-meter mark, you'd better go without it, if there is no absolute need to dig up the tree - for your sake and for the health of the plant sake.

Why dig up a walnut tree?
There are several reasons why it may be necessary to move a walnut tree from its current location. As a rule, it is a matter of moving the plant to another place, as it is in its current "territory"
a) does not find suitable growth conditions or
b) is not welcome.
Regarding a) Sometimes it happens that you put the walnut tree in too narrow a place the first time - mostly out of inexperience. But the walnut takes up a lot of space, at least over the years. When it comes to the soil, on the other hand, the walnut is not particularly picky. Moist, slightly sandy and deep soils are ideal for walnut trees, but also with others They can cope with surfaces (they can only do anything with waterlogging, poor ventilation and too much sand begin).
Regarding b) The walnut may threaten to grow beyond your own property, which will displease the neighbors or endanger road safety. Situations like this make digging (and transplanting) the tree necessary as well, or you will be in conflict with the law.
Digging up walnut tree - instructions
- Take a sharp one spade or an ax at hand - depending on the size of the tree.
- Dig up your walnut tree with plenty of rootball. The taproot is very difficult to cut. You need strength and endurance to cope with the task. Lateral piercing with your chosen tool is the best method, as practice has shown time and again. Pierce the ball deeply - at least 50 centimeters.
