Freezing extends the storage time
Beetroot can be stored in the refrigerator for two to four weeks without any problems. After that, this type of cooling is no longer enough. If you cannot use it up completely within this period of time or if you want to build up a specific supply, you have to use the freezer.

Freeze only cooked
Simply put it in a freezer bag and put it in the chest, unfortunately that is not possible with these vegetables. It must be boiled beforehand. It takes some time, but it's still worth it. Those who like the taste of this tuber and appreciate its healthy ingredients will not be disappointed by the defrosted version either.
What all you need
In addition to a few fresh tubers, you will also need a few kitchen utensils to make the prep work and freezing easier:
- a vegetable brush
- a sufficiently large saucepan with a lid
- a kitchen knife
- Plastic cans or freezer bags
How to bring the beetroot to a boil
Right at the beginning, the tubers are gently freed from adhering dirt with the vegetable brush. And so it continues:
- Put the beetroot in a saucepan and cover halfway with cold water.
- First bring to the boil at the highest level. Then cook on a lower setting for about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the tuber.
- Remove the shell from the cooled tubers.
- Cut the beetroot into bite-sized pieces, either as slices or cubes.
Tips
You can recognize cooked beets by the fact that the skin is easy to peel off. You can get red fingers clean with a little lemon juice.
Shelf life and thawing
Large quantities are best divided into several cans or Freezer bags distributed, because that way they can be better stowed in the freezer.
So that the beetroot has a long shelf life of approx. eight months, all containers should be labeled accordingly. The beetroot only needs to thaw slightly before using.
