Roasting in the oven

For a medium bowl you will need a small can of chickpeas plus a tablespoon of rapeseed oil and a teaspoon of spices according to your taste, for example salt and pepper, caraway powder, paprika, turmeric or curry. There are no limits to your creativity.
It is important that you use chickpeas that have already been cooked because raw peas contain toxins.

The preparation step by step:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees circulating air.
  2. Drain the chickpeas in a colander and then rinse them again under running water.
  3. If you prefer dried chickpeas, they need to be soaked overnight and then cooked until soft.
  4. Pat the peas dry with a kitchen towel after rinsing or cooking them. If the peas are moist, they won't get crispy when you roast them.
  5. Mix the chickpeas with the oil and the spices.
  6. Place the peas on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and put this in the oven.

After half an hour of baking time on the middle rack and occasional turning, the chickpeas are roasted golden yellow and can be eaten after cooling.

Toast in the pan

Here you will need about three cups of pre-cooked chickpeas, two tablespoons of oil (either rapeseed oil or coconut oil) and a teaspoon of seasoning to your liking, as well as salt and pepper.

  1. Heat the oil in the pan.
  2. As soon as the oil is hot, add the peas and stir with the wooden spoon.
  3. After searing it briefly, turn it down to medium heat.
  4. Fry the peas, turning constantly, for about 20 minutes.
  5. Once they are golden yellow to light brown in color, add the seasoning of your choice and mix well.

After a short cooling period, the chickpeas can be consumed.

Use of the roasted chickpeas

Although they are high in calories, the roasted chickpeas are a great snack alternative to chips and flips.
The chickpeas fill you up, satisfy the cravings for sweets and give our body a lot of fiber. In addition, they provide us with important vegetable protein, iron and calcium.
In addition to being a snack between meals, roasted chickpeas are also ideal as a crispy ingredient in delicious salads.
