Pitting dates - simple step-by-step instructions

All you need to start pitting dates is

  • the fruits,
  • a sharp knife,
  • a stable base and
  • some kitchen paper.

This is how the pitting of dates works quickly and reliably:

  1. Place the dates on a stable surface, for example a sturdy cutting board.
  2. Place a little paper towel next to the mat.
  3. Take a sharp knife and cut the first date open lengthways. So cut the fruit in half.
  4. You can then separate the two halves of the date.
  5. Pull the stone out of the “pithy” half of the date. For this purpose, you generally do not need a special aid, you can use your fingers without further ado.
  6. Place the stone on the kitchen paper.
  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 with all other dates.
  8. Now you can eat the pitted dates straight away (and enjoy) or process them as desired - for example, cut into pieces or puree.

Special tip: Let palm trees grow out of date stones ...

Do you have the desire and patience to grow a palm tree? Then you shouldn't just throw away the kernels of the dates, but instead stick them in soil.

Mini instructions:

  1. Soak the core in warm water for one to two days.
  2. Core in a yogurt pot with Potting soil put.
  3. Pour the whole thing lightly and cover with foil.
  4. Place the vessel in a warm place (near the heating).

After that, it can take two to four weeks (or even longer) before the first development can be seen. As soon as the first cotyledon appears, you should place the plant as light as possible and possibly place it in a larger container. Later, proceed as you (would) do with other palm trees.
