Which location do fragrant roses need?

Basically, you don't plant fragrant roses in any other location than so-called shrub and hybrid tea roses. In order to develop the best fragrance, a sunny location is the first choice. in the Penumbra the flowers smell less intense.

Furthermore, if possible, a location in an airy but covered location is preferable. Otherwise rainwater would soften the scent a little and damage the appearance of the flowers. Open locations on house walls and under eaves, for example, are well suited.

Where is the best place to plant fragrant roses?

Roses that give off a strong scent should be planted where the scent can be deeply inhaled. Seats such as terraces are well suited for this. Planting locations on the wayside, at the house entrance or in the foreground of the perennial bed are also advantageous.

Which substrate do fragrant roses need?

Since fragrant roses develop deep roots, they are less suitable for pot cultivation. They need a deep underground of at least 50 cm. The earth should have the following characteristics:

• nutritious
• permeable
• loamy or clayey
• slightly sandy
• slightly acidic to neutral
• humus

What plant spacing should be observed?

Depending on which variety If you have bought, you should keep a certain distance between individual roses, other plants and objects when planting. For example, if the scented rose is 80 cm wide, a planting distance of at least 40 cm should be maintained. The following applies: half the growth width.

Can you propagate fragrant roses?

Of course you can also propagate scented roses! But this is only allowed if the cultivars are not protected. You can recognize such specimens by a ® when you buy them. You can propagate unprotected varieties with cuttings. Cut the cuttings in the summer and put them directly in a bed that you can roof over, e.g. B. Cold frame.
