Beauty and terrible danger can go hand in hand

With relatively easier care the room calla ensures persistent blooms in the room. However, it should never be overlooked that the sap present in all parts of the plant can be extremely toxic to humans and animals. The poison of a room calla can cause severe symptoms of central nervous system poisoning when absorbed into the body. Depending on the respective concentration, this can lead to the following effects:

  • fever
  • chills
  • Respiratory paralysis
  • death

Plant sap can leak out even without a cut

Due to the poison it contains, maintenance measures on the room calla should only be carried out with protective gloves. The room calla also tends to excrete excess water temporarily through secretions at the leaf tips. Therefore, you should always keep this option in mind and set up the room calla in such a way that cats and small children cannot come into contact with the sap under any circumstances.

Tips

Since mere skin contact with the sap can lead to skin irritation such as nettle rash, any drops of the sap should always be wiped up and removed immediately.
