Planting in late summer and autumn is ideal
When planting, the bulbs of the imperial crown should be placed in the ground in such a way that they:
- stand as sunny as possible
- deep enough to be planted
- with an appropriate drainage system do not have to suffer from waterlogging
If the bulbs of the imperial crown are planted in the ground by August or September at the latest, the plant has enough time to develop numerous roots by winter. Usually the first flowers appear in the next spring, before there is another period of dormancy in summer. It can be visually attractive to surround imperial crowns with less tall flowering plants so that the temporarily bare spots or the withering inflorescences in the flowerbed do not disturb.
Tips & Tricks
At a Multiplication The imperial crown made from seeds can in principle be sown all year round. However, the seeds should always be sown relatively fresh, and they also need a certain cold phase before germination.
