Oleander is not hardy

Like so many Mediterranean plants, oleander is not frost-resistant and therefore not hardy. Light frost up to approx. minus five degrees Celsius is usually tolerated, but only for a very short time - the shrub quickly gets frost damage, which results in brown, dried up leaves and express urges. Let the oleander in late autumn or Stand quietly outside in mild winters, but provide it with protection against the cold at night (e.g. a Garden fleece) or, if the temperatures are to drop sharply, bring it to a cool, but frost-free room.

In principle, the oleander should stay outdoors as long as possible and only be moved to winter quarters when the temperatures drop below zero. How much frost an oleander can withstand cannot be determined by specific degrees, but depends on the individual plant. Some varieties of oleander

(for example, 'Papa Gambetta', 'Italia' or 'Lutein Plenum') are considered to be particularly frost-resistant, while others are significantly more sensitive to the cold. Older plants are also more robust than young ones. However, a frost-free wintering is advisable for each specimen if possible.
