Do the ornamental hops have to be cut regularly?

The ornamental hops do not necessarily have to be pruned on a regular basis. But then it can grow up to a meter. This is quite impressive for a houseplant. An annual pruning is therefore recommended. Each cut stimulates the plant to sprout again at this point, so your ornamental hops will become nicely bushy over time.

The ideal time for pruning is spring, when you can repot your ornamental hops right away. New and fresh soil is good for the plant, it only brings a larger pot when the root ball fills the entire previous container.

What do I have to pay attention to when cutting the ornamental hops?

Ornamental hops are quite robust and not very susceptible to disease, but infected tools can damage them. Spider mites or aphids occur occasionally. You should therefore clean your cutting tool before each use. Cut off all shoots that are sick or withered, then bring your ornamental hops into an appealing shape.

Can I cut cuttings from my ornamental hops?

Indoor hops can be easily propagated with cuttings. Spring is also a good time for this. The best thing to do is to plan the routine pruning straight away. So that the cuttings root and sprout well, you should cut head cuttings that are about eight to ten centimeters long.

You should only water the cuttings of your ornamental hops a little in the first few weeks. To keep the moisture in, place a clear plastic wrap over the pot or put the cuttings in a mini greenhouse. If you want to get a handsome young plant in a short time, put several cuttings in a pot.
