Home gardeners with a small front garden simply raise classic trees from southern climes to become decorative tall trunks. In the original terracotta tub, oleanders, pomegranates and other splendid specimens unfold their maritime magic without extensive growth.

Hardy perennials with Mediterranean charm

A colorful array of beautiful perennials creates a Mediterranean ambience and is still very hardy. You should therefore supplement your front yard with the following plants so that a neat, stylish Mediterranean feeling dominates here even outside the warm season:

  • Real one lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) with blue, white or pink flowers
  • Mediterranean snowball (Viburnum tinus) with white-pink flowers from March to April
  • Loquat 'Red Robin' (Photinia fraseri) with spectacular red leaves in spring
  • Pelargoniums (Pelargonium), the summer blooming flowers in wonderful colors
  • Torch lilies (Kniphofia uvaria) inspire with bright red flower candles from June to October
  • Sun hat (Rudbeckia) sets Mediterranean accents with bright yellow flowers

Of course, fragrant herbal beauties from the Mediterranean should not be missing in the planting plan. These include splendidly blooming sage (Salvia officinalis or Salvia nemorosa), seductively scented thyme (Thymus) and aromatic oregano (Origanum vulgare). In the sunny, sheltered location, these herbal plants can stay in the front garden all year round.

Tips

With dry stone walls and paved Areas made of natural stone create an authentic setting in the Mediterranean front garden. Light beige limestone is predestined for a Mediterranean ambience. If you have a well-upholstered budget, fine antique marble is on the shortlist as a valuable floor covering for paths, surfaces and terraces.
