Plant Deutzia properly
The best time to plant Deutzia is in September and October. Penetrated by the warming rays of the sun, the soil offers the best conditions for rapid rooting. As part of the preparations, soak the still potted root ball in water until no more air bubbles rise. The planting hole is dug spacious enough that the previous planting depth can be comfortably maintained. Ideally, the excavation is optimized with compost and Horn shavings.(€ 32.93 at Amazon *) If the may flower bush thrives in the large tub, insert a few potsherds between the substrate and the opening in the floor as drainage. The subsequent regular water supply is more relevant for Deutzia than the planting itself. You should preferably put a watering ring around the planting area so that the water cannot flow away to the side.

Care tips
It is a manageable care program that elicits the fragrant clouds of flowers from a Mayflower bush. We have put together all the relevant aspects for you below:
- Water Deutzia abundantly and regularly
- Start fertilization in March / April with complete fertilizer
- Monthly until September re-fertilize with compost and horn shavings
- Shorten by a third after the first flowering period for autumn re-flowering
- Every one to two years, thinning out the shrub thoroughly and removing overaged twigs
We recommend light winter protection in pots so that the root ball does not freeze through. Covered with foil and placed on wood, the ornamental wood comes through the cold season in good health. In the bed, it is primarily belated frosts that require adequate precautions. If there is a risk of frost, wrap up the sprouting branches Garden fleece or jute ribbons.
Which location is suitable?
They play all the trumps in the hand of a starry bush for splendid growth when the location is sunny and warm. The chosen location should be sheltered from the wind so that the picturesque flower pile does not become disheveled. If the flat heart roots then find fresh, moist soil, rich in nutrients and with first-class water drainage, the ornamental wood gives its best.
The correct planting distance
Due to the wide range of multi-faceted species, the specific plant spacing must be coordinated with the selected specimen. As a guide, we have listed adequate distances for the most popular species and varieties:
- Deutzia gracilis: Plant height 60-100 cm and plant width 50-80 cm - plant spacing 30 cm
- Deutzia scabra: Height 250-350 cm and width 180-200 cm - planting distance 100 cm
- Deutzia magnifica: Plant height 200-300 cm and plant width 100-150 cm - plant spacing 50 cm
What soil does the plant need?
As a flat heart root, the may flower relies on nutrient-rich soil that is humic and fresh and moist. Nevertheless, waterlogging must not occur, because Deutzia cannot survive this dilemma. Therefore pay sufficient attention to the degree of permeability. If in doubt, loosen the soil with sand or fine Grit.(€ 41.99 at Amazon *)
When is the flowering time?
The popular name Maiblumenstrauch leaves no doubt when the hydrangea plant will be in the limelight. Look forward to an opulent display of flowers in white or pink from May to June. If a slight pruning takes place immediately after the first flowering period, this measure paves the way for autumn re-flowering in September.
Cut Deutzie properly
Typical spring bloomers, such as Deutzia, are cut into shape immediately after blooming. If you shorten shoots that are too long by a third, with a little luck you can look forward to autumn re-blooming. Place the scissors just above one of the outward-facing eyes. This vegetation point can be seen as a slight elevation under the bark. On this occasion, the may flower bush is carefully thinned out so that the light reaches all areas again. For this purpose, overaged and dead shoots are cut off at the base.

Pour Deutzie
Deutzia are one of the thirsty flowering shrubs. Never let the plant come under drought stress, because it will not forgive. The moisture content of the substrate is therefore checked daily with a thumb test, especially during the flowering period. Once the surface of the earth has dried out, watering takes place. Put the water directly on the root disc, because overhead irrigation opens the door to cunning fungal spores for an infestation.
Fertilize Deutzie properly
Deutzia only produce the opulent biomass of dense flowers and lanceolate leaves if sufficient plant energy is available. A boost fertilization in April brings the seasonal growth in motion, followed by monthly replenishment in the form of compost and horn shavings. The supply of nutrients ends in September so that the shrub can mature before winter.
Overwinter
Deutzia are completely hardy when there are no leaves. Only in the year of planting should the still young roots be covered with a layer of leaves or brushwood. If the budding started in early spring, belated ground frosts can affect this year's flower festival. Keep the weather forecast in at this time eyeto cover the shoots in jute overnight if necessary. We recommend taking annual precautions against frosty temperatures in the bucket. Wrap the vessel in bubble wrap and slide a block of wood under it. The substrate is given a protective layer of leaves or needles.
Propagate Deutzie
You can easily grow other Deutzia with cuttings. If a mayflower bush is full of sap, cut half-lignified and non-flowering head cuttings. These are defoliated except for the upper pair of leaves and planted in a pot with poor soil. In the partially shaded, warm location, the rooting progresses quickly. The top priority for a successful course is an adequate water supply without drowning the plant. Until autumn you will have a vital young plant in your hands that can be planted in the bed.

How do I transplant properly?
The frugal asterisk will not take it easy if you tell it to change its location. As long as there is also a sunny, nutrient-rich and freshly moist location, growth continues unhindered. In order to keep the stress at the lowest possible level, the leaf-free season comes first into consideration. In autumn or early spring, prick off the root ball, lift it out of the ground and put it back in its new location without delay. It is important to note that the previous planting depth is exactly maintained.
Is Deutzie Poisonous?
A look at the botanical assignment to the hydrangea family gives the all-clear. The mayflower bush is not poisonous. Thus, the magnificent ornamental wood is an ideal candidate for the family garden, in which children and pets cavort.
