In Europe, some countries boast the oldest oak in Europe and at the same time the world to have. This includes:
- Austria
- Denmark
- Bulgaria
In Germany there are several very old oaks, but they probably do not come close to the more than 1,000 year old trees in other countries.

The age of the three trees is estimated by experts to be over 1,200 years.

The oldest German oak is the remote oak near alder. It is said to be 650 to 800 years old, according to other estimates, even more than 1,200 years old.
The grave oak near Nöbdenitz in East Thuringia is around 800 years old.
There are many old oaks near Ivenack in the Mecklenburg Lake District. The horse head oak and the knustiche are particularly well known.
